How to Incorporate Running or Marathon Training with Burn360
Incorporate Running
If you want to incorporate running with Burn360, there are a few ways to do this:
- First, Burn360 already has interval timers set up for your cardio days, and I recommend you use these for your runs, whether you're running outside or on a treadmill. So, you still get to run, but you're going to use the Burn360 interval timers to guide you through the workout and changing intensity levels (e.g. jogging pace, sprinting pace, walking pace). In the program, I demonstrate exactly how to do this -- and as a runner, you're going to love this! Burn360 HIIT cardio workouts are interval-based and are awesome for replacing your steady-state runs because they're shorter, more fun, and much more effective at fat-burning and muscle-toning! Each workout takes only 20-25 minutes (but they are intense!), and if you want to keep running afterward, you can. However, I suggest running at a recovery pace so you don’t overdo it or spike your cortisol.
- If you prefer steady-state runs (as opposed to Burn360 HIIT runs), you don't have to give them up. Do one of your steady-state runs on an Active Recovery day (you'll see it on the workout schedule), but be sure to run at a low to moderate intensity to ensure you're getting adequate recovery.
- If you only want to do steady-state runs instead of Burn360 HIIT cardio runs, you can replace some or all of the Burn360 HIIT cardio days with your steady-state runs. If you run everyday, do the Burn360 dumbbell workouts after the run.
Marathon or Half-Marathon Training
Burn360 workouts can be complementary to your endurance training program, but you'll need to modify slightly and, most importantly, make sure not to overtrain.
- You can skip the Burn360 HIIT Cardio workouts and replace those with your regular running training.
- You can start doing the Burn360 dumbbell workouts three times a week initially, but reduce them to two times a week as you increase your running training.
Again, it will be important to listen to your body as you do this, but the workouts in Burn360 will definitely help you improve your strength, which is vital for injury prevention and performance for your running.
